And if you don’t—this is a story you’re going to want to hear. Mr. Glittercakes has been under veterinary care for the past 7 weeks, and his journey has been anything but ordinary. Shortly after arriving, his foster mom noticed significant swelling in his face and lymph nodes. What initially seemed like a possible allergic reaction quickly turned into something more serious when treatments didn’t resolve the issue. After multiple vet visits, he was diagnosed with puppy strangles (juvenile cellulitis)—a rare condition where a puppy’s immune system overreacts and causes painful swelling, most commonly around the face and lymph nodes. It can be alarming to see, and without treatment, it can become severe. The good news is that it is treatable and not contagious, which allowed his siblings to continue on their journeys to adoption while he focused on healing. With proper veterinary care, most puppies recover fully. In some cases, there may be minor long-term effects, such as small scars or slight skin changes where the swelling occurred. These are typically cosmetic only and do not affect the dog’s overall health or quality of life. Through it all, Mr. Glittercakes never lost his spirit. He remained a happy, playful, affectionate puppy—always ready for snacks, snuggles, and playtime. Watching him continue to choose joy through his entire recovery has been nothing short of inspiring.
