About Phoebe

Phoebe has an original story—rescued after a difficult start, she first came to foster care a decade ago, healing from a back injury and pregnancy. Her right rear leg was amputated due to permanent nerve damage, yet she adapted well and was adopted into a loving home. For nine years, Phoebe lived a stable life, but after new anxiety issues surfaced, she returned to her foster and is now being cared for by a vet. Phoebe is now 10 years old (turning 11 this July) and about 14 pounds. She has started daily pain medication, uses a wheelchair to help with mobility, and sometimes drags her remaining back leg when tired. She also takes medicine for anxiety and Proin for occasional dribbling. She’s house trained and spayed, and her vaccinations are up to date. Phoebe does not get along with cats or children, but she is fine around other dogs. She will do best with an adopter who is comfortable managing ongoing medical and mobility needs, as well as anxiety. She’s looking for a committed person who can give her structure and care as a senior small dog. Fun fact: with a July 4 birthdate, Phoebe is a Cancer—she’s sensitive and seeks safe, comforting environments. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Phoebe

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Phoebe, as a Chihuahua/mixed breed, is suited for an indoor environment with limited stairs and easy access to comfortable resting places, especially given her mobility challenges. She thrives best where routines are predictable and the atmosphere is calm.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Phoebe doesn’t require much outdoor space; a small, secure yard or regular leash walks are enough. With her wheelchair and limited mobility, safety and assistance outside are most important for her.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Phoebe is not suitable for homes with children. Her special needs and history mean she needs a quiet, adult-only environment to feel confident and secure.
