If you have - you love him. If you haven't - you're in luck. You just came around the cutest, nicest, best "once in a lifetime" dog. We have known Bozzy for a long time - he spent the last 5 years at a partner shelter in Nebraska. During that time, he visited local colleges to provide emotional support during finals weeks, and was part of the shelter children's program. He was adored by volunteers and staff but never adopted. When his shelter contacted us that they suspected Bozzy had bone cancer in his right leg and didn't have much more time to live, we were devastated. We drove 8 hours to rural Nebraska to pick him up, gave him a big kiss, promised him he would never have to live in a kennel again, and drove him back. We made him a Heartland dog, and it's the best thing that has ever happened to him. Our staff member Carrie has been fostering him since, and to say that he's thriving is an understatement. The cancer that was suspected? It's actually just arthritis! Bozzy started a new medication to help with the pain, and within days he was back to the younger, playful Bozzy that we fondly remembered visiting at the other shelter over the years. Bozzy is generally healthy! He does have the arthritis and allergies, both well managed with daily medication. Bozzy walks with the most endearing limp - but he is never slowed down. He joins playgroup, runs with the other dogs (especially to chase big trucks while in the yard!) and keeps up just fine with his 2 foster dog sisters. He gets along with all dogs - not much into the "rough and tumble" play, but he's a great, respectful co-exister with dogs of all sizes. At 6 years old, he's just the best dog age. Done with puppy shenanigans but not yet a senior - plenty of time left to "grow old together" with an adoring adopter. Bozzy is an amazing house dog - he is the definition of "low maintenance". He's doing great as an apartment dog. He is great on walks; totally non-reactive to everything. He is housebroken and can spend a full workday at home without complaints. He is crate trained, but can be trusted to free roam - we watch him on the pup cam and he spends most the day sleeping, with periodic breaks to play with a toy. Bozzy's weakness is toys! The more the merrier and he enjoys each one. Bozzy is such a special dog and so deserving of a home that will spoil him and make him part of the family. He truly has a smile that lights up the entire room and a devoted, loving personality that we love so much about dogs!
