About Powerade

Meet Powerade! Powerade is a 3-year-old, 68-pound boy who is a really enjoyable dog to spend time with. He's friendly, easygoing, and handles new environments well. He comes out of the kennel easily-just excited to get going. On leash, Powerade walks nicely and is mostly a loose leash walker, with only mild pulling at times. He enjoys taking his time to sniff and explore, making him a great companion for relaxed walks. Powerade hops right into the car on his own and rides well. He may stand to look out the center console or sneak in a few kisses, but he's also happy to settle down and lay in the seat. Because he's eager to hop out when the ride ends, tethering is recommended. Having a chew with him in the car can also help keep him occupied. When given space in a yard, Powerade prefers to roam and explore rather than constantly play. He does show some interest in toys and will chase them and occasionally bring them back, but he mostly enjoys sniffing and checking things out. He is very treat motivated, knows "sit," and can even catch treats tossed to him. He takes treats gently and will redirect nicely into a sit if he gets a little excited and jumps up for attention or snacks. Powerade can be mouthy when he's excited or interacting with people. He will put his mouth on arms or hands, and while it's not hard biting, it's still something an adopter should be aware of and prepared to work on. Because of this, he would be best suited for a home without small children. In public, Powerade does very well. He greets people politely, approaches for pets without jumping, and has been calm and nonreactive toward other dogs, simply watching them with relaxed body language and slow tail wags. He also stands calmly for baths and handles grooming without much fuss. Powerade is a solid, friendly dog who enjoys being around people and exploring the world. With someone willing to continue working on his manners, he has all the makings of a really great companion. As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
