About Hunny
04/01/26 13:25 Foster Family Note We had Sunny for a little over two weeks. She is great. Her intelligence surprised me the most. She's quick and eager to learn, and picked things up in a single session for each skill we taught her — sit, down, stay, wait, look at me, drop it, leave it. She taught herself to touch the doorknob with her nose to signal she wants to go outside. She's incredibly smart and keen. She takes time to settle into new spaces. She's hyper-aware at first — she'll spend a lot of time pacing, looking around and sniffing the same things eight times. But once she does settle in, she just relaxes. She wants to chew, she hangs out, she's calm in the house. She'll watch what you're doing with curiosity, come over for pets, and melt into the floor for cuddles. She loves to play tug. She waits politely at gates for her turn to get pets. She walks beautifully on the leash — she doesn't pull, and when she hits the end of the leash she comes back on her own. The first few days she tried to slip the lead a few times when she was scared, so we used a martingale or harness. I'll really miss training her. Training her is a joy. I'll miss her little vocalizations. Her high-value treat is mozzarella cheese — she likes hot dogs too, but she can be picky. She deserves someone who can help her be unafraid of the world, nourish her curiosity, and her love of tug. About Sunny Sunny is a sweet, sensitive, intelligent dog who bonds deeply with her people. She's affectionate and seeks physical contact — she'll lean into you for pets, settle beside you on the couch, and melt onto the floor for belly rubs once she feels safe. She's curious about the world but cautious, and she looks to her handler for reassurance in uncertain moments. She learned sit, name recognition, and the beginnings of a reliable recall within her first week with us. She picks up new concepts quickly and is eager to engage in training when she understands what's being asked. With the right person, she has enormous potential. She loves to play tug, gets the zoomies sometimes, and has fun bursts of energy. She also sleeps most of the day and is calm and relaxed in the house once she's settled in. She enjoys watching you cook, hanging out in the evening, and just being near her people. 03/01/26 16:30 Urgent foster to adopt or Rescue Needed – Hunny Hunny is a sensitive girl who is struggling in the shelter environment and urgently needs a calm foster or rescue placement. While she is easy to remove from her kennel, returning is extremely distressing for her. She refuses to walk back into the kennel room, vocalizes loudly, and resists even with gentle assistance and low-stress handling. She appears highly sensitive to the shelter environment and may have little to no experience socializing with other dogs. The noise and stimulation here are likely overwhelming for her. Hunny needs a quiet, patient home where she can feel safe and decompress away from the stress of the kennel. With stability and understanding, she has the potential to blossom. Please consider stepping up to give Hunny the consistent, peaceful space she so desperately needs Come in to meet her or inquire with us at SJrescue@sanjoseca.gov MH
