About Wilson

Meet Wilson #2, a handsome 4-year-old neutered male fox-red Labrador — a true “Lab’s Lab” and the ultimate buddy dog. Wilson is affectionate, playful, confident, and deeply affiliative. He lives for Frisbee fetch and has an impressive party trick: he can retrieve one Kong Frisbee while proudly carrying another safely in his mouth (just wait until you see the video!). When he’s not zooming after discs, you’ll find him lounging in the sunshine, happily chewing on sticks, or cuddling close to his favorite person both indoors and out. After a good day of activity, he’s perfectly content to settle in for some quality TV time on the couch (if he's allowed) or lying on a comfy dog bed. This boy is smart, attentive, and eager to please. He thrives on routine and has that classic Labrador charm that makes him such a joy to live with and love. A little about Wilson’s special needs: Wilson’s current owner is moving to a multi-level apartment community and has made the deeply loving decision to rehome him because he wants what’s best for Wilson's long-term comfort and happiness. Wilson has always lived in a home with a yard, and more importantly, he has some special physical considerations following a Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE) he experienced in March 2023. As a result of the FCE, Wilson has some neurological deficit and reduced sensation in his left hind leg. He can manage a few stairs, but he should not do them repeatedly or tackle multiple flights. A single-story home (such as a ranch) is strongly preferred, and he needs to avoid jumping up onto or down from furniture, vehicles, or other heights. Wilson did use a Help 'em Up Harness for awhile after his FCE and during rehab; it's a useful tool his new family can revisit if needed. His new family will need to be mindful about not letting him overdo it — Wilson doesn’t always know his limits, especially when there’s a Frisbee involved! Currently, he enjoys frisbee sessions limited to about 15 minutes, 3–4 times per day. Wilson gets along well with other dogs. Although he hasn’t lived with one full-time, he loves biweekly playdates with his “cousin” (a Bernese Mountain Dog) and does great when playing with other dogs at boarding. He hasn’t lived with children, but he sees them regularly in his neighborhood and shows appropriate, gentle interest. Because he’s a young, energetic Lab, families with small children or anyone unsteady on their feet should be aware of the potential for an enthusiastic “Labrador knock-down.” Medically, Wilson is doing very well. He completed six weeks of rehabilitation and physical therapy after his FCE (full records from Vet Specialists are available). His environmental allergies are managed with a daily oral Apoquel (Rx) and he eats a high-quality salmon-based kibble (Open Farm Salmon & Ancient Grains). He rides comfortably in the car in a dog hammock (in the back seat) and is generally an easy-going, well-behaved boy: calm in the car, great at the vet, and a pleasure to have around. Wilson is very well loved and has clearly been cared for with tremendous kindness. His owner is rehoming him out of that same deep love and concern for his future well-being. If you have a single-story home, a calm but active lifestyle, and are ready to give this sweet, frisbee-loving boy the attentive home he deserves, Wilson #2 might be your perfect match. ___________________________________________________________________________________ PLEASE NOTE: While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue.
