About Stephanie
Stephanie is a small, tricolor terrier mix looking for that rare, patient adopter who gets just how special she is. At 3 years old, her tail’s nearly always wagging and she thrives on closeness—snuggles in bed, leaning up for pets, always wanting to feel connected. Once Stephanie trusts you, her affectionate side never turns off; she’s all about warmth and companionship. She’ll benefit from gentle, positive routines, especially slow introductions to new people or dogs. Stephanie enjoys backyard playtime with other dogs after slow introductions and needs a secure, physically fenced yard. She doesn’t do well with loud noises or raised voices, so a calm, quiet home is a must. Stephanie shouldn’t be crated or confined, and she may guard high-value items like bones. She’s currently working on leash skills, and she’ll need someone patient with her learning pace. Her medical needs are significant: Stephanie has a grade 6/6 heart murmur and is on Vetmedin and Lasix. She uses pee pads due to medication and is considered hospice. She’s spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and her adoption fee covers one year of vetting. Stephanie cannot live in homes with children, or with electric/underground fences. She’d do best with an adopter prepared for ongoing medical management and thoughtful, flexible care. Approved adopters must live within an hour of Elkhart, IN. Every dog is different—Stephanie will simply need someone who meets her where she’s at. Make hers the home she’s been waiting for.
