About Liam
Meet Liam… a 5½-month-old, 26-pound Goldendoodle who is just beginning to discover what it means to be a dog. Liam was running loose for several days in Mechanicsville before he was finally trapped. When we found him, he was terrified, covered in cockleburs, matted, and completely overwhelmed by the world around him. Whatever life he came from, it clearly didn’t prepare him for… well… anything. He didn’t know how to be a puppy. But here’s the beautiful part of Liam’s story… he’s learning. Since coming into foster care, Liam has been watching the other dogs closely, and they’ve become his teachers. Thanks to them, he now: Sits for treats (especially if everyone else is doing it). Knows where to go potty. Can do stairs (a big accomplishment!). Understands toys and even respects when another dog says, “that one’s mine”. It’s like watching a dog build a life from scratch, one lesson at a time. Liam absolutely loves other dogs. In fact, he relies on them. They give him confidence, show him what’s safe, help him understand how to exist in a home, and have taught him to play. Because of this, another confident, friendly dog in the home is required. Liam is learning that humans can be kind, but he will need a home with patient, understanding adopters who are willing to give him the time and space he needs to continue building trust. Liam needs a physically fenced yard. He is just learning to walk on a leash and isn’t comfortable enough to go potty on a leash yet. He hates being kenneled. We suspect he may have come from a situation where he was always in a kennel. When his foster parents leave Liam is loose with his dog friends. At night Liam sleeps on his foster bed curled up with another dog. Liam isn’t a “ready-made” dog. He’s not going to walk into a new home and immediately know the routine. If you give him time, let him continue to learn, and let another dog show him the way you will get to watch something really special happen. You’ll see a scared, unsure puppy slowly realize the world isn’t so scary. You’ll see him start to trust, to play, to relax… to finally just be a puppy. Liam is looking for a home that understands that progress might be slow, but it will be incredibly rewarding. He doesn’t need perfection. He just needs a chance. And he’s already proving he knows what to do with one. Liam is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
