About Jolene
Jolene is an energetic dog. She is a brown lab/retriever. She is lean and not “chunky” like a normal lab. The retriever comes through pretty well. Jo has a lot of energy. She loves to go to open fields and run. When she plays with other dogs at dog parks, she likes for them to chase her. She gets these spurts of zoomies and she can get going pretty fast. Jo is pretty chill during the day. She does like to be close to people in the same room. If she had it her way, she would snuggle on the couch every day. She loves to go on walks. Then, runaround in open fields. Jo is a tough one when it comes to people and dogs. She will feel safe with certain people and with others easily guarded. We have boarded Jo multiple places in Ellis county and had two Rover people watch her. She is being fostered by her Rover person who says that she loves affection. She takes a minute to warm up but when she does, she is really chill and sweet. The current Rover also has a daughter that likes to play with Jolene and Jolene gets along with her other dogs. She does have resource guarding issues surrounding food. She will growl and nip if anyone gets close while she is eating. She has also played well with other dogs at the Ellis County Pet Resort. She doesn't like cats. Jo completed basic training in 2020. She knows how to sit, wait, and lay down. All basic commands. She is house trained in that she won't potty inside. Sometimes she will throw-up. She knows the difference of a bed and crate/kennel command. We have used “okay” as her release word if she ever has to wait for a treat, to go get a bone, or just a general release She uses a “Gentle Leader” collar/leash to help with her pulling when on walks. She is definitely anxious by nature. The training I think she lacks the most is recall when off a leash and in a big space. A little selective hearing I believe. If it is a small park, she is fine. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccines and microchipped. She may have some allergies. Her eyes will get red in the spring/summer if she is outside too much. Her food she currently eats was recommended by our Rover watch. She has eaten Science Diet, but has been sticking with lamb. She thought that maybe the chicken was something Jo was sensitive to and was causing her to shed a lot. She also had her on Purina Pro Plan for sensitive skin and stomach. Lamb based in winter. Salmon based in the spring. Jo is a sweet dog that wants a lot of love but is just an anxious gal. When the anxiety comes out, I think she becomes more reactive: defensive and protective of “her space” whether it's food or herself. But she is a cuddle bug and wants to be loved on. Jolene has been feeling a lot of anxiety these past few months. The choice to surrender Jo has not been easy. I am unable to keep her with my living situation. She was with her custodial parent who committed suicide while Jo was in the home. Jo has been fostered ever since. She deserves a home where she can be loved on, not left alone. She deserves to run in open spaces. I believe that there is a person out there that is looking for Jolene to complete their family. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
