Meet Maggie a rat terrier mix. Maggie is very shy and just loves to curl up on her bed and chill out. It's been challenging to get to really know her, because she is so scared at the shelter. Volunteers have been working with her and she is getting more comfortable. She is still very scared and shy and she needs things to progress slowly as she gets to know you. She will need a patient adopter who can give her time to warm up and is willing to work with her on her confidence. She is unsure of other dogs and cats. As she becomes more comfortable we may learn more about her reactions to other pets. Right now we would recommend no other pets in the house or a way for them to be separated. She will need to be muzzled for vet care. She is not aggressive, but does nip out of fear when she is being handled. She is also on edge when you reach toward her head, so removing a leash needs to be a slow process. Slip leads are helpful, so they can be put on without needing to reach too close to her head. We would recommend a quiet and calm home so that Maggie has an environmnent where she can feel safe. We would recommend a home without kids. Any potential adopter will likely need to meet Maggie several times before adoption to give her a chance to warm up. A foster to adopt situation may be an option, but only for local (Southbend/mishawaka ) fosters.
