Willie is a remarkable 8 year old (DOB 5/28/2018), 23 lbs, Rat Terrier who is currently looking for his forever home. My descriptions may seem like exaggerations except for those who understand and love the Rat Terrier breed. Willie is a healthy and intelligent companion who is both sensitive to human moods and eager to please. He thrives on gentle but consistent discipline and significant exercise. Despite his age, he's spunky, active, and ready to start his day with you. His daily routine typically begins at 6:30 AM with a long walk or a visit to the dog park. He especially enjoys a walk that includes chasing lizards or quail. He needs a repeat outing in the afternoon. He is ready to spend the day by your side and expects to keep you warm at night. But he is also flexible in schedule and enjoys whatever. He frequents his crate and will go there when insecure or if you are leaving. Willie knows all common commands and responds well to them. He travels politely in either a car seat or crate and is exceptionally well behaved on golf cart rides. While he is shy but polite with adults, he is cautious around children. We recommend a home with no young children or cats or other small animals. He has made delightful progress with his social skills. He used to be very reactive toward other dogs and was not too keen on making friends with them when he first arrived. He now walks nicely, most often meets other dogs calmly, and has even been well behaved during veterinary visits and in public stores. The ideal home for Willie is one with an active lifestyle where he is not left alone or crated for long hours, as he is accustomed to constant human contact. He is a sweet, devoted and obedient dog once he adjusts to a new environment. He would enjoy another dog companion. He just recently went to the vet where he received a clean bill of health and had 8 dental extractions done. The vets adored him and say he did fantastic in their care!
