About Merlin
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org. --- - Sweet, shy boy who is looking for a patient family who will help him open up as he continues exploring the world - A great little companion who loves any and all pets, settles really well in the house and would be fine sleeping next to his person all day long - he's content with any love you can give him - A little wary of new people at first and prefers to build relationships slowly, but once he feels comfortable with someone, he's begging for endless pets and belly rubs - Working on sit and likes treats but is much more interested in human food, especially cheese and peanut butter; a bit of beggar but does well if you ignore him - Does well on a leash and loves to sniff anything and everything on walks - Will sometimes find small items outside, pick them up, get the zoomies, drop them and roll on them - it's really cute to see him feeling playful - Still pretty nervous on car rides but has been improving in his foster home with positive reinforcement - Has been potty trained in his foster home; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine - Has been doing well with crate training in his foster home; goes into his crate with treats and does well overnight - Has become buddies with the dog in his foster home and is respectful of her cues; hasn't shown much interest in toys, but will sometimes playfully chase the resident dog when she's playing fetch and they'll even curl up and nap next to each other sometimes; may enjoy a calm dog friend - Has learned that cats have claws and don't like their personal space messed with; coexists well with the cat in his foster home and respects the cat's boundaries - We don't know his history with kids, but he has overall been sweet and gentle with people All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age) The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label.
