Meet Ouisa. Yes, *that* Ouisa — the unforgettable character from the classic movie Steel Magnolias. Much like her namesake, our Ouisa is dramatic, opinionated and absolutely convinced she is the smartest one in the room. Let’s be honest: Ouisa makes her own rules and she is not here for nonsense. This little Shih Tzu has a face that says “angel” and a personality that says, “I’m pleasant, dang it!” Because of the grey on her muzzle Ouisa looks older but she is actually just one year old. She can be incredibly sweet and affectionate BUT only on her terms. When Ouisa is in a loving mood she will happily follow you around, allow you to hold her and stare at you like you are the center of her universe. However, she has some resource guarding tendencies and she feels strongly about certain personal property rights, particularly when it comes to people and things she believes belong to her. If you ignore her clearly communicated boundaries she may file a formal complaint using her tiny but very determined teeth. Because of this, Ouisa needs an ADULT-ONLY home with humans who understand dogs with a little spice in their personality. Ouisa has mellowed some in the time since she first joined us but she is still full of herself. She needs someone who sees her sass as part of her charm but also won’t allow her to get herself in trouble. Being a brat is one thing but biting isn’t funny. Ouisa’s behavior can be managed but she requires a savvy human who will handle her responsibly and not put her in situations where she will be set up to fail. Ouisa would do best in a home with just one or two adults who are homebodies and don’t have a lot of visitors. She is excellent with other dogs and cats but she keeps her circle of humans small. To sum things up — if you’re looking for a perfectly behaved, always-agreeable lap dog — keep on scrolling. But if you can appreciate a clever, hilarious, ridiculously adorable little diva who will keep you on your toes, Ouisa just might just be your girl.
