Yes, on a dog-by-dog basis. Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. [The Lycoming County SPCA does not "cat test" dogs per the Association of Shelter Veterinarian's Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.] --- What volunteers have to say about this animal: Meet Diesel - Goofy Low-Rider, Loyal Sidekick, Certified People Dog Diesel is a 4-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix with a sturdy 65-pound build, a big smile, and the kind of happy-go-lucky personality that makes people fall for him immediately. He's a lovable "low-rider" type, solid, wiggly, and full of friendly enthusiasm. Diesel was adopted in 2025 and returned to the shelter in early 2026, and while we're glad to see his sweet face again, our biggest hope is that his next home will be the one that lasts forever. Diesel is a social guy who truly prefers being around his people. During his assessment, he showed that being alone makes him a little anxious, but the moment you come back, his whole body lights up with relief and excitement. He doesn't just like people... he really values their company. What Diesel Is Like: - Friendly and people-oriented - he wants to be near his humans - Goofy and energetic, but settles nicely after the initial excitement - Enjoys handling, especially head and chest scratches - Loves running and playing (even if fetch isn't really his thing) On leash, Diesel is enthusiastic and can pull, so we recommend walking him with a harness to make things more comfortable. With consistency and routine, he'll only get better as a walking companion. Diesel wants to be in life with you, not watching from the sidelines. He's affectionate, expressive, and happiest when he's near his people. Diesel's Ideal Home Looks Like: - Kids around 14+, on a case-by-case basis - Other dogs, pending meet-and-greets - A family who enjoys walks, playtime, and togetherness - People who understand that some dogs just love being part of the action --- Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Diesel is a sociable dog who prefers being around people. During his assessment, he showed signs of stress when alone, eagerly seeking closeness upon my return. Though initially excitable and moderate in arousal, he calmed down over time and enjoyed handling, especially when focused on his head and chest. Diesel is naturally curious, exploring both indoors and outdoors, but he tends to pull on the leash, causing some coughing fits. It's recommended that he be walked with a harness. While he enjoys running and playing, he isn't interested in retrieving toys and can be rough with them. He quickly recovers from startling sounds and shows curiosity towards them.
