About Opie

Meet Opie 🧡 Opie is a big, lovable, 24-pound lap cat with an even bigger heart. Named after Opie Taylor from The Andy Griffith Show, this handsome orange boy is full of personality, affection, and charm. He’s the kind of cat who doesn’t just sit near you—he climbs right into your lap (all 24 pounds of him!) and settles in for snuggles, purring away and even drooling a little in pure contentment. Opie is incredibly people-oriented and thrives on attention. He knows his name, comes when called, and loves to be wherever you are—whether that’s supervising the dishes, standing in your path for pets, or curling up against you for a cozy nap. He gives kisses, loves head bunts, and will gently tap you with his paw when he wants more love (or snacks!). He’s also playful and surprisingly agile for his size. Opie gets the zoomies and will gallop through the house in bursts of energy that are equal parts impressive and hilarious. He loves wand toys, strings, and anything he can chase or bat around—just be ready to laugh and stay out of his way during his high-speed laps! Opie adores: • Belly rubs (yes, really—it’s not a trap!) • Brushing and affection • Tall, sturdy scratching posts for stretching • Food (he’s very motivated and will need monitored feeding) Important Notes About Opie: Opie is being rehomed due to behavioral challenges in his previous home, including territorial and redirected aggression. He can become overstimulated or reactive in certain situations, especially around stressors like loud noises, unfamiliar environments, and seeing outdoor cats. Because of this, Opie must be the only cat in the home and cannot be exposed to other cats or even their scent. This is essential for his comfort and success. He can do well with small, calm dogs. Opie also experiences significant stress during veterinary visits and requires full sedation for exams and care, so his future adopter should be prepared to work with a vet who understands his needs and can help make those visits as low-stress as possible. The good news? Opie is doing very well in his foster home, where he has been described as sweet, affectionate, and much more relaxed. With the right setup and understanding, he truly shines. Best Home for Opie: • Adult home or respectful, cat-savvy older children • Calm, predictable environment • No other cats and no exposure to cats • Can live with small, calm dogs • Experienced cat owner who can read cues and manage overstimulation • A home committed to continuing his progress and setting him up for success Despite his challenges, Opie is truly a softie at heart—a devoted, affectionate companion who just needs the right person to understand him. His previous owner loves him deeply and wants nothing more than for him to find a home where he can feel safe, secure, and adored. If you’re looking for a loyal, cuddly, larger-than-life companion and have the experience to help him thrive, Opie is ready to fill your home (and your lap) with love 💕 APPLY TO ADOPT: finalvictoryrescue.com *We are located in South Carolina and transport to the northeast weekly.
