About Captain Meatball

Captain Meatball is what experts in the field call "a tough guy with emotional damage." After spending who-knows-how-long surviving on the streets, he came to the conclusion that the world is scary, everyone is suspicious, and he must maintain the image of a large intimidating fellow at all times. Unfortunately for him, the tough-guy routine falls apart pretty quickly once you open his cage and he launches himself out like a furry cannonball because he actually doesn't want to be alone. The shelter environment has been incredibly stressful for Captain Meatball, and stress tends to bring out his defensive side. Right now, he can come across as reactive around other cats, but we truly believe he's misunderstood. After having to fend for himself for so long, he's still operating in survival mode and struggling to relax in a loud, unfamiliar environment where he constantly feels like he has to protect himself. Underneath the "don't touch me, I'm dangerous" act is a big softie who's still learning that people can be kind, meals arrive on schedule, and he no longer has to fight for his place in the world. In a calmer home environment, with patience, decompression time, and proper introductions, we believe Captain Meatball has every chance to settle in and thrive. He enjoys dramatic exits, pretending he doesn't care about affection, and then immediately following you around anyway. He'd thrive with someone who understands that healing isn't always linear - sometimes it looks like a 12-pound cat trying to maintain street credibility while secretly wanting reassurance and companionship. Adopting Captain Meatball includes: * One oversized former street goblin * Constant supervision during snack preparation * A part-time shadow who swears he's independent * The privilege of earning the trust of a cat who's finally learning he's safe He may never fully retire from his role as neighborhood tough guy, but these days he'd much rather spend his time being someone's loyal little meatball instead.
