About Luna
Some dogs require a bit more from their people, and Luna is one of them. She’s a petite, scruffy, long-haired dapple miniature dachshund weighing about five pounds, with feathery ears and tail, soft eyes, and an unmistakable spark. At just over a year old, she’s full-grown and discovering how much she loves cuddling, chewing on toys, and occasionally chasing balls. Luna was born with a severe form of Megaesophagus. This means she receives all food and water through a feeding tube several times a day. Her new person will need to be hands-on and home often—her care is more like babysitting a toddler than raising a typical dog. Her day-to-day is a rhythm of tube feedings, medication, and careful monitoring for regurgitation or signs of aspiration. Cleaning up is part of the routine. Quick wipes and a forgiving floor help. When things get rough, she needs comfort and calm—sometimes she just needs a sleep day to recover. Luna bonds deeply and is gentle, silly, sometimes dramatic, and very affectionate. She gets along well with calm dogs and understanding older kids, but definitely not suited for a house bustling with young children or constant guests. Luna’s ideal home is quiet, patient, and devoted—preferably with a fenced yard and a stay-at-home situation. She’ll need a family committed for the long run, not intimidated by medical care or careful routines. Her foster family and rescue will provide support and guidance, and her adoption will be thoughtful and selective. Luna is fostered in Sandy, UT, and any adopter will need to meet her and pick her up in person. This is not an ordinary adoption, but Luna is not an ordinary dog—she’s loving, resilient, and absolutely worth it. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!

Questions about Luna
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Miniature Dachshunds like Luna generally do well in calm, indoor environments where they feel secure and loved. A stable routine and access to safe outdoor space for gentle play suits her best, especially given her medical needs.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Luna, as a miniature dachshund, can thrive with a modest fenced yard or supervised garden; she doesn't require a large amount of outdoor space. Given her health, safe exploration in a yard is more important than high activity levels.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Miniature dachshunds can be good with older, dog-savvy children, especially when gentle and respectful. Luna in particular is best placed in a household without young children or frequent visits by them due to her medical fragility.
