About Daisy
Daisy is a beautiful 2yo brindle mixed breed female. She is currently being fostered by a shelter volunteer who has known her for about a year, as she has been a part of the shelter system on and off for that length of time. Daisy has the capacity to bond very deeply with her adopter, as she has done so with this volunteer and her family. However, Daisy does have some special needs that would help her to be successful in her future home. Because of her history with abuse as a puppy, as well as an unfortunate encounter where she was bit by another dog while on leash, she does have some stranger danger and reactivity while on a leash. She has attended an intense 8-week board and train program, and she excelled with the structure, consistency, and boundaries provided. Her current foster is actively working with the trainers, and her training continues. She is working very hard, and her progress is evident. Daisy would need an experienced adopter who is willing to continue her training. She thrives in structure and consistency, as it helps her to feel safe. She would require multiple meet n greets in order to slowly become acclimated to a new adopter. While this may seem frustrating for an adopter, Daisy is worth the wait. When she is slowly, intentionally introduced, she is a very loving, affectionate, sweet girl. She enjoys playing with her current female foster sibling, and her play style is short bursts of rough and tumble play. She does demonstrate the ability to respect boundaries of playmates. She loves being inside, sitting on the couch, taking naps in her crate, and chewing on enrichment toys. She likes to go on walks, but she has earned the affectionate nickname "Lazy Daisy" because she does demonstrate an affinity for lounging. Daisy is housebroken, crate trained, and knows basic commands (sit, heel, place, down, out, no, leave it). She walks beautifully on a leash. She is muzzle trained and will come with her own Muzzle Movement muzzle. The muzzle helps her, and her handler, to feel confident and secure in stressful situations. While she does still have anxiety with new people, this issue is actively being addressed in training. Her foster and trainers are consistently working with her to help her understand that the world, people, and other dogs can be safe. This is where ongoing follow-through with her behavior plan will be an integral part of her success. While the training isn't hard, it does require consistency....and it can be fun. Recommended Adopter: 1. Experienced dog owner 2. A home with another dog is possible. Daisy would do best with a laid-back dog. A proper introduction would be required 3. Adult only home (or a home with children 13+ who are understanding of respecting dog's boundaries) 4. Willingness to follow behavioral plan and continue with training maintenance 5. A low traffic home (or a willingness to do slow introductions in accordance with behavior plan); it is recommended that she be crated, if circumstances do not allow for a slow introduction of house guests 6. Continuation of medication until a veterinarian guides in proper tapering and discontinuation 7. Willingness to snuggle with one of the best cuddle bugs there is.
