About Bud

MEET BUD! Bud is an approximately 10-year-old Hound mix who joined us from ACCT Philly in January after his owner passed away. Poor Bud was found all alone in his home and was terrified to leave. Bud had been adopted from the South as a puppy so finding himself separated from his family and home and landing in the shelter as a senior was a shock. Bud is a sensitive old dog who seems like he hadn’t the security of his home much so experiencing a great big world now has been a little overwhelming for him. After leaving the shelter, Bud had the chance to decompress and get comfortable in a foster home. As he settled in and was able to show us more of his personality we begun to realize that the busy city-life of South Philly just wasn’t for Bud. He’s now in foster care in the quieter suburbs where he isn’t so overstimulated and has already started to relax more. Bud quickly bonds with his people and loves to spend his time with them. Once he’s settled and adjusted, Bud is an easy companion that doesn’t require much. We don’t believe he’s lived with dogs in the past but has spent some time with them since joining the rescue. Some dogs don’t appear to appreciate his energy. We think he’d do best with a confident, low-key dog who he can follow by example. Bud appears to be a Hound/Shepherd mix. Which means he’s a smart, sensitive guy who still very much loves to play and chase ball and will do just about anything for a treat. He will thrive with a daily walk or romp in the backyard with a tennis ball so his smart brain doesn’t get too bored or anxious. Bud is a big boy, weighing in around 100 lbs. Like all large breed aging dogs, he will need help managing stiffness in his hind-end and joints as he continues to age. He would benefit from glucosamine and omega supplements and an NSAID to keep him feeling good. He has received a veterinary workup and dental cleaning with extractions. Bud has nipped when he’s feeling painful, pushed, or scared (for example, getting in and out of the car or being handled at the vet). He’s a big boy so moving his body quickly isn’t always easy for him. Because of this, he’d do best in a home without children. He’ll need a patient adopter who understands that as fun and bouncy as Bud is, he’s also a bit of a grumpy old man. But a grumpy old man who is also deserving of a quiet retirement home where he can spend his days relaxing, laying in the sun, chasing a ball, and telling the neighbor kids to get off his lawn. Bud is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has received a dental cleaning. Interested in adopting Bud?
