About Poppy
It’s tough to let a dog like Poppy go, but she deserves a calm, supportive environment where she’ll truly be at ease. Poppy is an eight-year-old pit bull who landed with her current family after being abandoned during the big Texas ice storm in 2021. There’s not an ounce of aggression in her, although she is protective and tuned into her people, especially when there’s commotion or unfamiliar faces around. A quiet home with steady routines, few visitors, and an owner who respects her boundaries would suit her best. Poppy has proven endlessly patient and gentle with babies and toddlers, but she would likely thrive most in a home without young children, or with teenagers who understand dog body language and know when to give her space. She prefers peaceful surroundings and stability above all. She does well around small dogs and has a mellow, couch-potato energy. She walks easily on a leash, is house trained, sleeps overnight in her crate, and has been trained with an e-collar, which can go to her new home. She’s treat-motivated and eager to please, but what Poppy loves most is curling up next to her people. Loyalty and affection come naturally to her—she bonds deeply and asks for consistency in return. Her caretakers are looking for an adopter who will offer her patience, predictability, and a genuinely peaceful home. Poppy is ready to settle in and give her devotion to someone who understands her.
