MELISSA decided she no longer wants to deal with this weird, wet, cold weather, so she waited till volunteers happened to arrive, then walked right up to the car and asked them to take her inside! Naturally, no one here could turn this sweet girl away! We often have kitties dumped on our doorstep and it can be very traumatic for the cat as there are no set hours of business. Volunteers come and go every day to care for the cats inside, but it might be a while between volunteers. Often the cats left may have spent hours trapped in a box or small kennel before they are found. Rather than being traumatised by being abandoned, MELISSA just seems to have accepted that every end is a new beginning, and she is ready for hers! MELISSA is not shy and while in her kennel, she comes right up and reaches a paw out to entice you to pet her. She loves attention but has a very demure lady-like way about her. She observes her surroundings, then figures out how she wants to proceed. She is a beautiful kitty, and it is hard to believe anyone could give this little lady up. We are just grateful she felt safe enough to approach the volunteers instead of running into the woods or street. Since we have no history on MELISSA, we do not know how she feels about other cats. So far, she has that "wait and see" attitude with the other cats in the room. We also do not know about dogs or children. With her calm demeanor, she may be ok with a non-aggressive dog or cat, provided they are given the proper slow introduction. She also would probably be fine with older children who are school in the rules of soft touch, no squeezing hugs, and put her down when she wants down. And Everyone must understand that when any cat is over-stimulated, or feels trapped, scratches and bites will happen. MELISSA seems to be an old soul who may be more of a snuggle on the couch type than a constant playmate. But she tries to put her best paw forward in each circumstance.
