About Dancer
Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Dancer, an affectionate two-year-old pit bull terrier who is looking for his forever home after being rescued as a stray in Minneapolis. While his early life is a mystery, Dancer has blossomed in his Iowa foster home where he's spent the last couple of months learning how to be a good dog. He is extremely cuddly and loves nothing more than curling up on your lap or snuggling by your side at night, whether that's in his crate or next to you in bed. Dancer is comfortable free roaming under supervision and is happy to spend time in a crate or a closed-off room when needed. Dancer is smart and highly treat-motivated, having mastered commands like sit, down, place, shake, and loose leash walking. He's gentle when taking treats and is cat friendly, respectfully coexisting with the resident cat. While Dancer loves to play with toys, he tends to shred and sometimes ingest them, so tough toys and supervision are a must. He can be tempted by countertops but is learning with the "off" command, and although he forgets and makes mouthy contact when excited, his foster parent says he's making significant progress. Dancer would thrive with daily exercise—preferably walks over yard play—and benefits from ongoing training and bite inhibition reinforcement. He thrives best with an experienced owner who can continue his training journey. Transitions can be challenging for Dancer, so adopters should expect 4-6 weeks for him to fully settle in, but his foster says the patience is well worth it. He currently lives with a dominant male dog, and while they're doing well now, intros with new dominant dogs must be handled carefully. Ideally, Dancer will be happiest as the only dog or with a calm canine friend. With a little patience and consistency, Dancer will reward you every day with his progress, affection, and love. If you're ready to help him write his happy ending, could you be the family he's been waiting for? Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
