About Duke

Duke came to the rescue after his original owner lost their home, and he’s looking for someone who isn’t easily intimidated by his energy. Once a classic Blue Merle, Duke’s coat has darkened with age, but his big ears and bright presence are just as striking. He’s full of life—running, jumping, and constantly on the move. Springboarding onto people when he gets excited is a habit from his old life, and while his fosterers are working on this, he still does it now and then, so he’s not a fit around younger children, older adults, or anyone unsteady on their feet. Toys are a real pleasure for him—he’s rough enough to enjoy them but gentle enough that they always survive another round. Duke is not suitable for homes with cats, as he’s likely to chase. Ideally, he’d be an only dog, but supervised meetings have shown he can sometimes manage short stretches with other dogs. Someone active, confident, and ready to keep up with his enthusiasm will find Duke a fun project. What are you waiting for? Apply today!

Questions about Duke

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Duke is a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Retriever mix who will do best in a home with lots of room to move and play. This breed mix thrives where there’s space to run freely, preferably a securely fenced yard.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

With his high energy, Duke needs plenty of outdoor space. A large, enclosed yard or access to safe areas where he can burn off energy is ideal for a dog like him.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Duke’s breed is not the best fit for young children, and in Duke’s case, he should avoid homes with small or elderly individuals. Energetic and boisterous, he’s more suited to families with older, dog-savvy kids if any.
