About Myrtle The Turtle
Hi, my name is Myrtle the Turtle! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home: -Personality: Curious, playful, affectionate (head scratches and getting on your lap...body petting is risking her overstimulation!) -Can Live with Cats: unknown history -Can Live with Dogs: unknown history -Can Live with Kids: would not recommend for children -Needs Indoor Only Home: No--indoor/outdoor ok -History of Litter Box Issues: None -Energy Level: medium -Bite History: None -Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: A spay and microchip at whs Additional Information: Ms. Myrtle the Turtle is a lovely young lady. She's got the typical "tortitude" but she's loving and playful when you meet her where she's at, show respect and predictability. Myrtle loves scritches on her chin, neck, and the top of her head. Be careful petting her back as she gets quickly overstimulated with touch in that area. Myrtle appreciates slow movements (sudden movements startle/scare her) She's learning about toys and enjoys a good wand toy, and the cat charmer is her fave, especially if you have the wand peek out from under a blanket. She prefers to play while laying up against your side (hasn't found her mojo enough yet to run and jump while playing...) She's got a sweet meow and a deep purr. She's learning that she can trust humans to honor her wishes without using her claws. I recommend a blanket over your legs to protect from enthusiastic biscuits and thick long sleeves until she gets to know you. Ms Myrtle the Turtle will reward your patience by continuing to blossom. She has strong preference for kibble over wet food so I'd recommend her people provide her a water fountain to encourage hydration. She responds to rubbing your thumb accross your fingers "pss pss pss gesture" as an invite to come over for a visit. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
