About Leela

Leela is a laid back, loving 4 month old chihuahua / terrier mix that weighs 8 lbs. She is estimated to be around 20 lbs when she is fully grown. Leela is always happy and has such a joyful personality that lights up the room. She is extremely affectionate and an absolute cuddle bug who loves nothing more than being close to her humans. She is best described as loving, affectionate, silly, and playfully sweet. This lovable girl has the perfect balance of cuddly calm and playful energy. Whether you’re looking for a snuggle buddy for lazy afternoons or a cheerful companion for adventures, Leela is always happy to join. She is a true sweetheart with new people she meets and is very polite during introductions. She loves playing with dogs of all sizes and has no problem keeping up with the big dogs, too. Even though she’s a tiny little girl, she has a big personality that shows off how confident, playful, and adventurous she is. She thrives on attention and loves being part of the fun, whether that means playtime, cuddles, or simply being near her people. She also loves being outside, running around, exploring, and soaking up all the excitement the world has to offer. With her sweet nature, playful spirit, and affectionate heart, Leela brings happiness wherever she goes. Leela's ideal family will be a good mix of active and outdoorsy, and also laid back and enjoys some time hanging out at home. She would love a family that includes her in their daily lives and love her as much as she’ll love them (which will be a lot!). Whether it’s going on walks, exploring new places, or enjoying lazy days at home, she’ll be your most loyal sidekick every step of the way. Anyone lucky enough to welcome her into their home will gain a loyal little companion who is always ready to love and be loved.  Leela is low to medium energy, so she is a good mix of active and playful, but also laid back and mellow. She has short bursts of energy that can be easily burned with play sessions outside in the backyard. She loves it when her humans are involved in her outdoor activities, whether it is tossing her favorite balls for a game of fetch or just hanging out on the patio enjoying the sunshine and relaxing. She is the perfect companion if you work from home because she's very good at keeping herself entertained when you’re busy. She’ll happily spend time playing with her toys, snuffle mats, or puzzle games, and then give you some cuddles in between your work calls to help ease the stress of the workday. She's laid back and on the calmer side, so she's perfectly content to nap nearby or curl up in your office chair while you work. She normally gets her energy out by running around the yard and being silly as she plays with her doggy friends or tossing her favorite stuffed animal around the yard and chasing after it. While she enjoys playing with her doggy friends, she’s also perfectly content to entertain herself with her favorite toys when she can't find another pup to play with. Give this girl a toy box full of chew bones, squeaky toys, and tug ropes and she will keep herself entertained majority of the day. She would benefit from having a Bark Box subscription and a toy box with a variety of toys to choose from in her forever home. On rainy days, a great way to keep her busy indoors is giving her treat dispensing toys or a snuffle mat with treats hidden throughout. She loves to play with mental stimulation toys, like puzzle games, that involve food and will take all the time she needs to make sure she finds every last yummy treat hidden inside. Leela is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with five children ranging in age from 4 years old to 11 years old, and she loves them all! One of her favorite things is when they sit on the floor so she can crawl into their laps and smother them with endless puppy kisses. She is very silly, sweet, and gentle and would be perfect for a family with kids that want a cuddly, laid back companion to grow up with. Due to her small size, it is recommended that she go into a home with kids who are experienced with small breed dogs or older kids understand they have to be gentle with her. When it comes to dogs, she loves them all. She is currently in a foster home with both small and large sized dogs, and her favorite dog in the home is a 120+ lb. Great Pyrenees. Every time she sees him, she can't help but run up and shower him with sweet puppy kisses. She is very submissive, gentle, and respectful of the older dogs' personal space and knows proper doggy communication skills. She would benefit from having another friendly, playful dog in her forever home to continue learning from as she grows. If she is the only dog, she would benefit from having frequent puppy play dates or go to doggy day care a few days a week. Because of her young age and friendly, gentle demeanor, she would be able to adjust to a kitty in the home with very slow intros. She has been around outside neighborhood cats and doesn't pay them any attention at all, but hasn't lived with one inside the home. Introducing slowly behind baby gates and giving the kitty time to adjust to having a dog in the home is recommended if there is a cat in her forever home. She would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before.  Leela is kennel trained, has almost mastered potty training, and is still working on leash training. She sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss, but does need to have a yummy treat and some toys in her kennel with her in order for her to start settling down for sleep. When she gets older, she would love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible in her forever home. Because she is so little, she will need some doggy stairs to help her get on/off the bed or couch so she doesn't hurt her little legs. She has almost mastered potty training and just needs to perfect alerting her humans. She will go to back door to notify her fosters that she needs to go out to potty, but doesn't know how to communicate other than pacing around the door. It is recommended to put a doggy bell by the door and teach her to ring it every time she needs to go out. As long as she stays on a consistent schedule though, she will not have an accident inside. She will need to consistent potty breaks to get on her new routine once she is in her forever home. She is just now starting leash training and will need to continue working on this when she makes it to her forever home. Leela's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. She could acclimate to living in an apartment, condo, or townhouse because she is lower energy and calm, but she will need to have frequent and consistent potty breaks. She would love if her human works from home or can take her to a dog-friendly office as she would be perfectly content laying by your feet while you work all day. She would thrive in a home with kids and other playful dogs. If she is the only dog in the home, she would benefit from going to doggy day care to help her burn some energy while socializing with some doggy friends. No public dog parks for this sweet girl (who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways), but she would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots or doggy day care occasionally for playtime and exercise if she does live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private fenced-in yard. Whether she’s exploring the outdoors or curled up for snuggles, Leela just wants to share life with her people. She’s so excited to find a forever family who will give her all the love, cuddles, and companionship she dreams of. Leela is in a foster home in Central Texas. She can be adopted and transported to the following cities/states: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/transport-locations This is a courtesy post for LAPP Dog Rescue. If you are interested in adopting Leela, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application. TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back. Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so when you submit an application it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. The cost to adopt is $830 - $850, which includes $400 adoption fee, a $230 - $250 transport fee, and a $200 refundable spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus any necessary vet care while in the rescue's care. The $200 refundable spay deposit will be paid directly to the adopter's vet before the spay appointment once he is old enough to undergo the procedure. The transport fee for PNW transports is $250. Transport for all other states is $230. You can see more pictures of Leela on our website: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/leela
