King Nino the Great absolutely lives up to the “Great” part of his name when he gets the chance to relax and simply be himself. Outside of the stressful kennel environment, staff repeatedly saw a playful, affectionate, intelligent young dog who loves squeaky toys, nose work, treat puzzles, cuddles, and spending time with people. He is very treat motivated, already knows “sit,” and appears to genuinely enjoy learning and engaging with his handlers. Once he gets some energy out and settles into a calmer setting, his softer side really shines through. He has been described as wiggly, affectionate, eager for attention, and surprisingly easy to handle during one-on-one enrichment time. Shelter life has clearly been overwhelming for King Nino, and much of his difficult behavior appears tied to stress, overstimulation, and frustration in busy environments. In quieter spaces, staff noted little to no jumping or mouthing and saw him happily running around with toys, solving puzzles, and seeking out affection instead. He will need an adopter or rescue committed to structure, enrichment, exercise, and continued training to help him channel all that energy and intelligence appropriately. Dogs like King Nino can be challenging in the wrong environment, but they are often incredibly rewarding in the right one because underneath all that intensity is a bright, social dog desperately trying to cope with a very stressful situation.
