Not every dog is celebrating this St. Pitty’s Week... some are just trying to feel safe. Meet Winnifred (A566061), a girl who arrived as a terrified stray, and her story hasn’t been an easy one. She came in with another dog, her partner and sense of security, but he slipped away and has not been found. Since then, Winnifred has been facing the shelter world on her own... and it has been overwhelming for her. In her kennel, she trembles, unsure and afraid, trying to make sense of everything around her. It’s not that she doesn’t have love to give. It’s that she doesn’t yet know who she can trust. A few staff members have taken her under their wing, and with them, you can see a completely different side of Winnifred. When she feels safe, she leans in close, holding onto her person like she’s been waiting for them her whole life. That kind of trust doesn’t come easily for her, but when it does, it’s powerful. Winnifred is the kind of dog who will choose her person. When she does, she will be fiercely loyal, deeply connected, and completely devoted. She just needs someone willing to give her the time and patience to get there. Right now, the shelter is simply too much for her, so she is being kept out of the main adoption area to help reduce her stress. All dogs adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, dewormed, appropriately vaccinated, and receive a topical 90-day flea/ tick preventative. Ready to meet Winnifred?
