About Sailor Shortcake
This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Sailor Shortcake's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Sailor Shortcake, a 10-week-old English Toy Terrier/Miniature Pinscher mix, weighing approx. 5 pounds (as of 3/17/26). This girl and her siblings from the SHORTCAKE litter are also a mix of Australian Kelpie, Heeler and who knows what else! Just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get! These beautiful pups were born as strays on the streets of Mississippi, but they're in search of a world of pure imagination, i.e. spending fur-ever in Candyland with you! If you're looking for an adventure puppy to explore the high seas, Sailor is the girl! But don't be fooled by her name. She may be a sailor, but her true calling is Captain and YOU are her first mate. This sweet girl loves adventure and exploring her surroundings. There's no treasure that she can't find and she'd like to keep it that way! Sailor also gets along with other dogs and while she hasn't had experience with cats or children yet, they're more than welcome to wash the decks! What? It's either that or walk the plank. Sailor is perfect for an active home that loves to try new things. She especially loves if you're around her all the time. Her Momma Shyla is 18 pounds so we suspect the pups will be around that size when fully grown. Sailor is doing well with a harness leash (though she's not a fan of it) and currently uses the crate 3 times a day for approx. 1.5 hours and sleeps in it at night. She also rides well in a car and knows commands like "sit" and "potty" with going outside, but will need extra help and patience with potty and obedience training. For your help, she'll make sure everyday is a sweet one by giving you all the love your heart desires! Isn't that a fair trade-off? Medical Disclosure: Sailor previously had an incision hernia, but luckily that's been fixed! Let's set sail, matey! Adopt Sailor Shortcake today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
