About Rutherford

Rutherford Male black DSH Approximately 1 year old Rutherford was brought into a local veterinary clinic in the beginning of February as a stray with an injured front leg. The finders had been feeding him for a little while and wanted to give him a check-up prior to scheduling him to be fixed. They thought Rutherford was a female and were calling him Ruth. Turns out that Rutherford was actually a neutered male. His biggest concern was his front leg which had a chronic wound that went down to bone. He was unable to use the leg and the damage had caused his 'wrist' to be permanently contracted. The finders were not expecting him to have such a huge health concern that was going to require an expensive surgery to amputate the leg which is when Fig and Friends were contacted to see if we could take him in. We were able to find a foster for him and he had his amputation that same week. Because the injury had been there for some time, Rutherford had already become comfortable walking with 3 legs. He can still jump, climb, and run. He is more of a quiet cat that stays to himself but once you start petting him, he is the sweetest thing ever. He is still gaining confidence being in a home, so would likely prefer a house that isn't loud and busy. He loves his cat tree that is in front of a window and bird feeder. He is coming out of his shell more and more each day. Location: In foster Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption.
