About Nigel
If interested in adopting, start at CatsCT.org to submit an application. Nigel is a handsome young adult about 2 who loves to be petted, have attention and spend time with people. He gets along with other cats and would be a great companion for an adult or senior cat in your home or just for you! Nigel came to us as a stray and was in a foster home for several months. He has tested positive for FIV, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, similar to HIV. Just like with people this is NOT contagious through casual contact. It's safe to share food, water, and a litter box with a negative cat. FIV is only passed by a mating, or a deep bite wound, where saliva from the positive cat enters the blood stream of another kitty. This is very rare in socialized house cats. FIV cats may have a shorter life span in part due to the fact that with a compromised immune system they are more prone to contracting infections. FIV positive cats must live strictly indoors to reduce the chances of contracting something dangerous. It is NOT a death sentence! FIV positive cats can live well into their teens and have a very normal life.
