About Cheddar

Meet Cheddar Cheddar is a big, beautiful gentle giant weighing about 83 pounds. This mellow boy has a soft presence and calm energy, but right now he’s still a little unsure of the world around him. Cheddar is shy and quiet, the kind of dog who prefers to observe before jumping in. Even when he’s feeling nervous, he remains incredibly gentle and respectful, choosing to quietly step away rather than react. Cheddar has a sweet, sensitive personality. He’s the kind of dog who forms deep bonds once he feels safe, and you can already see glimpses of the loving companion he will become. When given space and kindness, he relaxes into a peaceful presence. He isn’t ready for big adventures just yet, but he enjoys the comfort of calm company and simply being near other dogs. Before coming to Pups Without Borders, Cheddar was part of a group of nine dogs who were living together and eventually trapped and brought into the shelter system. Many of the dogs from this group arrived very scared and shut down, and Cheddar was no different. It was all incredibly overwhelming for him. At one point he shared a kennel with a young puppy named Skyler (we saved him too), and the two curled up together for a quiet nap a small but touching sign that Cheddar finds comfort in companionship. Since being rescued, he is finally getting the chance to decompress and learn that the world can be a safe and loving place. Cheddar is already showing that he coexists nicely with other animals. He has peacefully shared space with other dogs and even seemed to appreciate having a confident canine friend nearby. In the shelter environment he also showed no reaction to cats who were near his kennel. With time, patience, and gentle guidance, Cheddar is expected to continue gaining confidence and showing more of his personality. What Cheddar needs most is a patient and compassionate adopter who understands that shy dogs bloom at their own pace. A calm home and a confident dog companion could really help him learn the ropes and feel secure. Because he can be fearful when overwhelmed, Cheddar will need a very secure environment and should never be left outside unattended while he’s still building confidence. Underneath that timid exterior is a sweet, soulful dog who simply needs someone to believe in him. With love, patience, and a safe home, Cheddar has every chance to blossom into the loyal, gentle companion he was always meant to be.
