About Slips

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Slips is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. The staff think I would do best in a home where there are no other cats. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. What my friends at ACC say about me: Slips has made some very nice improvements since his first assessment and now enjoys petting and is friendly, sweet, and affectionate, but remains a level three cat mostly because of bite history in the home. Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) and a bite/scratch history we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat parent home. A volunteer writes: I spent some time with Mr. Slips today, and now that he's more adjusted to the Care Center, he seems like a totally different cat than his earlier notes state: I found him to be playful, gentle, and a lover of any and all human interaction. This handsome youngster waited patiently for me to approach his kennel, and when I did he greeted me with some hearty meows and an invitation to bat around a feather toy. He took a break to munch some chow, then lay down on his side and rolled around to reveal his belly, a sign of trust. Slips really is a fan of humans, and the perfect new pet parent for him is someone who keeps a pile of toys on hand and gives him one-on-one time. He's the kind of cat who will cheer you up when you're feeling blue, listen to you when you talk about your day, and never turn down the opportunity to just hang and enjoy your company. Meet this handsome boy at the Manhattan Care Center today! Primary Color: Gray Tabby Secondary Color: White Weight: 10.15lbs Age: 4yrs 2mths 1wks
