About Mika

They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Mika’s story is nothing short of inspiring. Arriving at the rescue in early January, this 15-month-old girl overcame an incredibly harsh start—frostbitten from the cold with all four paws damaged, the tip of her tail lost to frostbite, and her tiny frame weakened by anemia and malnutrition. Despite this, Mika showed an indomitable spirit: always friendly, fiercely determined, and remarkably resilient. Gentle hands nursed her back to health, with careful wound care and protective bandaging, and she underwent necessary surgeries to restore her health, including being spayed and having major dental work due to stomatitis. Mika now receives long-acting injectable steroids for her comfort, and her zest for life is stronger than ever. Her name, Mika—meaning “new moon” in Japanese—suits this survivor who embodies renewal and hope. With her tough past behind her, Mika enjoys her independence and prefers to be the only cat in the home, where she can shine without competition. She might coexist with one respectful feline in a larger home, but a single-pet home is her best fit at this time. Mika will thrive in a patient, understanding family with older children who appreciate her gentle but brave spirit and the unique sensitivity that comes from overcoming adversity. Special adoption programs are available to support her long-term care if you are ready to welcome a cat with chronic oral health needs into your family! Make their next chapter their best one yet.
