About Mika

Mika arrived at the start of 2026 after a brutal ordeal, frostbitten and frail, but fiercely determined. At just 15 months old, she had survived days in freezing temperatures that left her with damaged paws and the tip of her tail lost to frostbite. Through careful vet care, intensive paw treatment, and tail amputation, she pulled through. She also faced stomatitis that required major dental surgery, though she’s adapted well with just her four canines left. Mika has continued to need injectable steroids for her mouth, which may remain a chronic condition. The rescue can support adopters with the cost of ongoing veterinary care. True to her name—Japanese for “new moon”—Mika embodies resilience and new beginnings. Now that she’s healed, this black and white tuxedo cat mostly keeps to herself in foster care, sometimes gently grumbling when other cats get too close. She currently does best as a solo feline but could, in time, accept a calm housemate. Mika would make a wonderful companion for a family with older, respectful children. Her reunion with her dad, Aspen, was brief; she’s embracing her independence these days. From nearly frozen to flourishing, Mika is a quiet marvel of second chances.
