Meet Toby, a handsome 3-year-old silver Lab mix weighing about 50 pounds with a gentle heart and soulful eyes. Toby is the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his person and becomes an incredibly loyal companion. Toby is house-trained and crate-trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and knows his basic commands. He has wonderful manners and is very sweet and submissive with people—he doesn’t jump up and prefers calm affection and companionship. If you’re someone who enjoys long walks, hiking, or exploring the outdoors, Toby would love to be right by your side. Toby was raised with a Golden Retriever but didn’t have much exposure to other dogs growing up. Because of that, he can be nervous when unfamiliar dogs approach him quickly, especially face-to-face. With slow introductions and time to build trust, he settles in and becomes much more comfortable. He has already been making great progress meeting the same dogs repeatedly and learning that they’re friends. Because of this, Toby’s ideal home would be: A dog-free home, or with an experienced owner who understands slow, thoughtful dog introductions. Once Toby bonds with his person, he becomes a devoted partner and could even enjoy off-leash adventures in the right environment. Toby truly is a super sweet, sensitive soul who just needs someone patient and kind to help him feel safe.
