About Bear
Bear is a 3-year-old Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull Terrier mix who’s spent several months in the shelter environment, which has left him a bit wary. Recently, after some post-neuter complications, Bear’s caretakers moved him to a quieter space and noticed his reactivity dropping. He’s highly sensitive to his surroundings, often showing nervous signals like a tucked body, barking, or growling at strangers, but this isn’t about aggression—it’s about feeling overwhelmed. Bear responds well to treats and bonds with people he knows, slowly learning to trust with patient, steady handling. Outside the kennel, he shows a much softer side: he enjoys gentle chin scratches, takes treats politely, and lights up for sniffy, leisurely walks filled with new smells. He has a stubborn streak now and then—if he finds something irresistible to sniff, he likes to take his time. Bear knows basic cues like sit and paw, does well on leash, and is calm around bikes, cars, and other dogs. However, his stress inside the shelter is building and he really needs a calm home without kids under 13, ideally with an experienced adopter or even a foster who can help him decompress. If you’re looking for an even-tempered companion who just wants the simple joys in life—walks, treats, good smells, and quiet time—Bear might be a perfect fit. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!

Questions about Bear
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Bear, being a Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull Terrier mix, is likely to do best in a home that is calm and quiet, especially given his sensitivity to stimulation. A peaceful environment where he doesn’t feel overwhelmed will help him thrive.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Large mixed-breed dogs like Bear appreciate regular outdoor time and access to a yard if possible, though he’s content with long, leisurely walks and plenty of sniffing opportunities. He loves exploring at his own pace, so ample walking routes would be ideal.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
While Labradors are often good with children, Bear’s fearful and sensitive nature makes him better suited to homes without kids under 13. A quieter household will help him feel safe and confident.
