Meet #Mishka What can we possibly say about this beautiful, sweet little girl? Because honestly… Mishka has completely stolen our hearts. We believe Mishka is about a year old, and she unfortunately arrived here as a stray. A stray… can you believe it? When she first showed up, her fur was so bright white and clean that it was obvious someone had cared for her at some point. Which makes it even more confusing that no one has come forward looking for her. When Mishka first arrived, she was absolutely terrified of the leash. Watching the volunteers try to take her out for potty breaks was heartbreaking. The moment the leash came out, she would panic. It was clear something about it really scared her, so we slowed everything down and tried to be as gentle and patient as possible. For the first few days, the volunteers actually picked her up and carried her outside just so she wouldn’t have to face that fear. And that’s when we discovered something about our sweet, smart girl… Mishka can jump fences. She was able to climb our chain-link fence here at the shelter, which could very well explain how this little adventurer ended up as a stray in the first place. Because of that, we would strongly recommend a secure fenced yard, along with supervision or a tie-out while she’s outside so our little friend doesn’t decide to go exploring again. The good news is Mishka has already made so much progress. She is now walking on a leash and learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. She’s still a little timid at times, but every day she gets a little braver. And when you reach your hand out to pet her… oh my goodness. 🥹 She immediately rolls into a sweet little submissive position, just soaking up the love. It’s honestly the cutest thing and melts every volunteer’s heart. Here’s what we know about Mishka so far: About 1 year old Very sweet and gentle personality Learning to walk on a leash May do best with a secure fenced yard and supervision outside Doesn’t seem to mind other dogs, but can be a little kennel reactive when dogs walk by Not yet fully dog tested Not cat tested We feel she would likely do well with kind, respectful children On the smaller side , no more than 40 pounds or less Mishka is just a soft, gentle little soul who clearly had a home at some point and now deserves another chance at the loving life she was meant to have.
