Buddy is a sweet male castrated senior chihuahua who has come a long way in his short stay in our care. Buddy has a focal heart murmur and some skin allergies. His skin allergies have improved dramatically with apoquel (anti-itch medication), antiseptic mousse, and treatments for secondary skin infections. The infections have cleared up, and his itching is now minimal. He may require maintenance medication (oral or topical mousses/shampoos) to control itchiness in the future. Buddy also came in with periodontal disease. The shelter did a dental cleaning on 3/4/26 and removed his most diseased teeth. The extractions sites have healed well. Lastly, he has a few some benign skin tag-like growths on his body. He has already had senior labwork done and has mild changes but no evidence of significant organ dysfunction. Buddy did very well in foster care while healing up and is now looking for his forever home, and is eager to live out his golden years with a family. Buddy does well with dogs and cats. Although he is a little timid and sensitive when handling at first, he warms up pretty quickly. He is affectionate and a sweet boy when settled in. Did well with Dogo Argentino and French Bulldog in the foster home. Did not mind being with cats. When they would rub on him and sniff him he would lean in and wag tail. He walks great on leash and is extremely food motivated. He loved jerky treats!
