About Kane

03/11/26 13:17 *************Final Medical / Behavior Rescue Plea – Kane****************** Kane is a 2-year-old Pit Bull/Bulldog mix (~80 lb) who needs rescue placement or a dedicated adopter by 3/21 due to escalating medical handling sensitivities in the shelter environment. Kane was brought to medical for evaluation of chronic skin disease and ear infections. His physical exam is most consistent with allergic dermatitis (possible flea allergy, food allergy, or environmental/atopic dermatitis). Due to limited tolerance for ear handling, Kane required sedation for ear cleaning and treatment. Even while sedated, he attempted to bite during his ear cleaning. Behaviorally, Kane initially shows leash biting when first removed from the kennel, but can be redirected to a toy and then settles. During handling he may show stress signals such as heavy panting and whale eye. During an ear cleaning attempt while awake, he snapped at the examiner’s hand with contact (no skin broken). During sedation placement he also demonstrated intense focus and defensive behavior toward the handler. Because Kane’s handling sensitivity has escalated with repeated medical procedures, the shelter is no longer able to safely continue medical care in this environment. His behavior may be related to pain/discomfort from chronic skin and ear disease combined with high fear/anxiety, and may improve with medical management, behavior modification, and desensitization in a more controlled environment. Kane has a history of being previously owned with no reported serious behavior issues, suggesting he may do better outside of the shelter setting. Kane would benefit from placement with a rescue partner or adopter experienced in behavior support and medical dermatology management. Continued treatment for allergies and ear disease, along with behavioral decompression and structured training, will likely help him succeed. Medical can provide approximately two weeks of medications if needed pending skin rechecks. ***Needs rescue or adopter by 3/21 or he will be humanely euthanized**** 02/26/26 11:30 Increasing kennel stress. Leash biting when intially out of kennel. Chronic skin disease, limited tolerance for aural (ear) exams and requiring sedation for ear cleaning. Needs urgent rescue or adoption. 01/30/26 16:22 MH Kane is a sweet, easygoing boy who enjoys walks, playtime, and gentle companionship. He can pull a bit on leash but is very manageable and has been noted to be easy to get in and out of his kennel. Kane is generally nonreactive toward other dogs and has shown the ability to ignore dogs who try to instigate, though any potential canine siblings should meet him at the shelter prior to adoption. Kane is very food motivated and enjoys playing fetch—he’ll happily chase and return the ball. He allows handling and wags his tail when being petted, even if he doesn’t actively seek attention. Kane enjoys staying engaged and would likely thrive with enrichment and recreational activities such as nose work or other mental stimulation. With structure, patience, and fun outlets, Kane will make a loyal and rewarding companion 03/03/26 14:42 Today was my very first Tails and Trails! The first thing you should know about me is that, I think Kennel Life is VERY boring, so when friends come to take me out, I want to play a game! I like to play with the leash, but I’ll quickly trade leash for yummy treats. Once I’m out of the kennel, I am the bestest boy! I’m so patient and friendly and I LOVE to ride in the car and I like to walk nicely on trails and I am so happy to say “hi” to all the people and dogs we see! What should potential adopters know about me: Kane is the most gentle, sweet dog I’ve taken out in a long time. Yes, he is beefy, but he prefers Fluffy. He jumps into the car, sits nicely for his seatbelt, looks out the window and waits patiently to get out when we stop. Walking he is fantastic. The leash stays loose and he does not pull toward any humans or dogs. He does have an interest in squirrels, but is easily deterred with a happy “let’s go!”. Kane is not a marker, and he appears to be house trained. If you are looking for a high energy dog who needs lots of exercise, Kane is not for you. But, if you a looking for a sweet, squishy boy who likes a nice walk followed by snuggles on the couch – Kane is perfect! Three words to describe me: Happy – Affectionate – Squishy
