About Ozzie
**$210 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!** **New notes 2/16!** Ozzie ACCT-A-151053 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Ozzie must have confirmed placement with a FOSTER, ADOPTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Friday February 20th at 10AM. Should Ozzie's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Ozzie is a handsome, playful boy who has had an unfair share of transitions. He first came to the shelter in 2023 after being surrendered when his owner entered a nursing home. He was adopted, but over two years later returned as a stray when attempts to reach his owner were unsuccessful. Despite these changes, Ozzie continues to show resilience and a joyful spirit. At the shelter, Ozzie is energetic, social, and loves to engage with people. He enjoys chasing toys, sniffing out treats, and showing off that he knows "sit" - and possibly "paw." He greets handlers with curiosity and loose body language, and while he may back up briefly when first presented with a leash, he allows easy leashing and exits energetically. On leash, Ozzie can pull moderately and is described as strong and athletic, but manageable with leash pressure. He can be mildly jumpy when excited and may fixate on cats or other dogs outside. In playgroup, he has had good dog meets, though he can have a forward and pushy play style. He has been described as high energy but sweet, and adult-only homes have been preferred in the past due to jumpiness. Ozzie has also spent time in short-term foster care, where he shined. Foster notes describe him as loving, mellow-mannered while still playful and fun. He is calm in the home, does not bark excessively, is potty trained, and sleeps well in a crate. He adjusts well, is friendly and curious, and enjoys snowy adventures. The primary challenge noted has been leash pulling which a harness helps with. Ozzie is looking for a committed home that can provide structure, exercise, and continued positive reinforcement. With consistency and an outlet for his energy, he has all the makings of a loyal and affectionate companion. Moderate issues on leash. Mild issues going back in kennel. Was mildly jumpy and pulling on leash while walking. Medium energy, very social loved saying hi to everyone he walked by. Needed treats to go back into kennel. 2/16: Ozzie did well with their teenager, jumping up into his face but taking redirection well. He had the typical husky posture (forward ears, tail up), loose to neutral body the entire time. He became a bit mouthy with play at first, but once we threw a toy he was redirected and then he spent about 10 minutes running. 2/6: No issues leashing, entering or exiting kennel. Had moderate issues walking on leash and jumping. Does note that he was fixated on a cat outside. 2/7: No leashing and exiting kennel. Had mild issues walking on leash. Mild jumpiness again as well. Medium energy. Was fixated on another dog outside. Does pull out of excitement. 2/9: No issues handling. Just a medium energy strong big guy. 02/03/2026 I think I can keep him until Thursday now. If that changes I will let you know. He really is such a great dog and I hope he finds a home soon or another foster. He is so loving and mellow mannered while also being playful and fun. He's calm and doesn't bark, potty trained, and sleeps well in the crate. The only thing is his pulling on the leash. 02/01/2026 Ozzie loves the snow!: https://youtube.com/shorts/L46k_AzUSOM?feature=share 01/25/2026 He is adjusting really well. He is friendly and curious and very playful. He doesn't seem to love his food and is not eating a ton. He also is pulling a lot on walks but not jumping or barking a lot at other dogs. 01/23/2026 Behavior eval 1/23/26:Kennel Presentation: He was laying on his bed when I approached his kennel and he got right up and came to the front to explore me. I opened the door and put the leash towards him. He backed away the first time, then allowed me to leash very easily and energetically exited his kennel. Leash Skills: He does pull moderately on leash and is a pretty athletic boy, but it was very easy to handle with some leash pressure. Got playful and started to prance when we were walking. Sociability: Took hotdogs from me, then always ended up spitting them out on the ground. He didn't solicit much attention from me and spent much of our time outside sniffing around the yard. Took pets from me when I called him over and had loose body language and a relaxed wagging tail. He tried to sniff more treats out of my fanny pack and took hotdog this time when I gave them. Inside he showed me that he knows sit and I think he might know Paw. He did fine meeting new handlers in the office. Play: Didn't show any interest in toys at first. He got very playful after he got more comfortable and loved to chase around squeaky toys! He played fetch nicely and allowed me to approach him when he was playing with the toy. Dog Interaction: None today Return to Kennel: No issues Color Level: I'm giving him gold since he's slightly strong and can get jumpy while playing, but it was very easy to handle overall 11/12/2023 Eval 11/12.
