Dog Name: Buddy Age: 6.5 years Gender: Male Breed: Lab Mix Good with dogs? Buddy enjoys playing with other dogs on leashed walks or during outdoor playtime. However, he prefers to be the only dog inside the home and in his personal space. Because he resource guards food and treats, he should be separated from other dogs during mealtimes. Good with cats? No. Good with kids? Buddy can do well around kids for short periods, but he thrives with predictability and calm environments—especially around his food, treats, and favorite chew toys. For everyone's safety and comfort, he would do best in a home without children. Rescue Story: Buddy lived with the same family since he was a puppy alongside two adults, a chocolate lab, and two chihuahuas. When their trailer home was foreclosed on, the family moved and left Buddy behind for nearly three months, only stopping by occasionally to check on him. Eventually they relocated to Las Vegas—rehoming the other lab, taking the chihuahuas, and planning to remove Buddy's tags and leave him at a shelter as a stray. Thankfully, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan heard about their plan and stepped in to help find Buddy a foster home. When he was rescued, his crate, bedding, and food dishes appeared not to have been cleaned in a very long time, and Buddy himself was in need of basic care like a bath and nail trim. Despite everything he had been through, Buddy remained incredibly sweet and resilient. Temperament / Personality: Buddy is a mellow, affectionate boy who enjoys the simple things in life. He loves playing fetch with balls and sticks, chewing on his favorite bones, and going for walks in peaceful places. He forms strong bonds with his people and is loyal and protective of the things he loves. Because of his past experiences, Buddy can be protective of his food and sometimes cautious around unpredictable movement, especially from children or other animals. With patient guidance and a stable environment, Buddy continues to build trust and confidence. Leash Skills: Buddy walks fairly well on leash. He may pull occasionally if he spots a squirrel or if he's feeling anxious or eager to head back home. Potty Trained? Yes. Buddy can comfortably stay indoors for 8+ hours without accidents. Crate Trained? Yes, in a trusted and familiar environment. Where does the dog stay when home alone? Buddy stays in a separate room to maintain a calm and comfortable environment. Where does the dog sleep? On his bed on the floor in his foster's room. Ideal Home: Buddy would thrive in a calm, predictable home with adults only and no other pets. A fenced yard where he can play fetch and explore would make him very happy. He needs patient, understanding adopters who are willing to continue helping him work through some of his past trauma and triggers. Strengths: Smart, loyal, attentive, affectionate, protective, and wonderfully goofy. Buddy has a low-to-moderate energy level and enjoys both playtime and relaxing with his person. What Buddy is Working On: Buddy is learning not to react to certain triggers like animals on TV or unusual movement that can activate his prey or protective instincts. With consistency and patience, he continues to make progress. If Buddy Were on a Dating Site: “Sweet guy with a big heart and a bit of a rough past looking for a lifelong partner. Once I trust you, I'll be your most loyal companion and protector. I love fetch, quiet walks, and cozy naps. I'm ready to grow and learn with someone patient and kind who will give me the love I've always deserved.” Favorite Toys: Bouncy balls for fetch and sturdy chew bones.
