Meet #Karen Karen came to us as a stray, and from the moment she arrived… it was clear this sweet girl is missing someone. She doesn’t look like a dog who has been neglected. In fact, Karen is a 70 lb full-figured gal who looks like she was once very loved. She’s also clearly a senior girl, which you can see in the soft white on her muzzle and the quiet, distant look in her eyes. When we take her outside, Karen pulls and tugs on the leash — not in a bad way, but almost like she’s searching… hoping she might find the person she lost. Sadly… no one has come looking for Karen. She hasn’t spent much time getting to know the volunteers yet. She’s very kind and gentle, but she mostly keeps to herself. Most days you’ll find her curled up on her bed, in a tight ball sleeping. Like many senior dogs, she sleeps a lot… and since arriving she hasn’t had much of an appetite. It’s hard not to think her heart is just a little bit broken. We would truly love to see Karen get out of the shelter and into a quiet, loving home where she can decompress and feel safe again. She doesn’t seem to mind the other dogs here, but she has not been formally dog tested, and she has not been cat tested yet. Truthfully, we don’t have a lot to go on with Karen right now — she just hasn’t shown us much yet. And sometimes that’s how it is with senior dogs who suddenly find themselves in a shelter. But we believe there is someone out there who might be willing to open their home and their heart to this sweet older girl… even if all she wants to do is sleep on the couch or lay by the window and watch the world go by.
