About Daisy Mae
Please note: After completing the initial phone screening, you’ll be connected with the foster for a video chat meet and greet. Transports run every few weeks, and approved dogs will be placed on the next available transport. If you’re not ready to adopt until a later date, please wait to apply until that time. We are a volunteer-run rescue, and our team donates time and effort to helping these dogs. If you are not fully committed to moving forward in the adoption process, we kindly ask that you do not apply. If others are involved in the decision-making process, please make sure you’ve discussed the adoption with them and that everyone is on board. We want to ensure we’re using everyone’s time wisely and focusing on finding the right homes for our dogs. Adoption Fee: $475 Link to adoption application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PRP/Dog ___ Daisy Mae is a beautiful 2-year-old, 35lb spayed female pittie mix who’s come a long way from her difficult start in life. She was rescued as part of a police confiscation case for abuse and neglect — weighing just 18 lbs at six months old. It took months before she learned that a gentle hand could mean love, not harm. Today, Daisy Mae is a happy, affectionate, and playful girl ready to find a family who will give her the safety and devotion she’s always deserved. Daisy Mae is being fostered in Austin, Texas, and while she’s available for adoption in-state, transport out of state can be arranged for approved adopters. Please note, our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we’ll reach out to coordinate a phone interview, followed by a video call with her foster home. A virtual home visit, plus personal and vet reference checks, are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation. Daisy Mae has an enthusiastic, playful personality and loves to romp around with other dogs once she’s comfortable — though she can be a bit bossy during play and benefits from slow introductions. She’s interacted well with dogs from 35–70 lbs and does best with balanced or confident dogs who can handle her enthusiasm. Because of her background, she just needs time to trust and understand that she’s safe. She absolutely adores kids of all ages and is gentle and loving with them. Daisy Mae has a moderate activity level overall — she enjoys walks, playtime, and exploring, but she also knows how to settle down and relax. She’s great on leash, fully house-trained, and crate-trained, sleeping soundly through the night from about 9:30/10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Because of her past experience with food insecurity, Daisy Mae eats and enjoys treats in her crate to help her feel safe. She’s never shown guarding toward people but may bark at other dogs walking by when she’s eating. She’s happiest when given space for mealtime and a calm environment where she can unwind. Daisy Mae is outgoing, smart, and affectionate — she loves car rides, heavy chew toys, and being near her people. When meeting strangers, she may act shy at first, but she warms up quickly and loves attention once she feels secure. Health-wise, Daisy Mae is in great shape and continues to thrive in foster care. She does have slightly runny eyes, which her foster suspects are due to environmental allergies that flare up during rainy times of the year. It doesn’t require any treatment beyond occasional gentle cleaning and awareness of seasonal changes. She doesn’t need another dog in the home to be happy and would do wonderfully as an only pet. If placed with another dog, slow intros are essential, and she’d do best with a calm, confident companion. Daisy Mae is the definition of resilience. After everything she’s endured, she’s blossomed into a loving, loyal companion who still greets every day with joy and trust. She’s looking for a home that understands her past, provides gentle structure, and celebrates the happy, goofy, affectionate girl she’s become. If you’re ready to open your heart to a survivor who’ll give you her whole heart in return, Daisy Mae is your girl. ___ Breed and Age Notice: The listed breed and age are our best estimates.
