Her pelvis was broken in two places. Her femur was broken. She was in so much pain that she tried to bite our vet twice. At the time, we barely knew her. With the severity of her injuries and the long, uncertain road ahead, our vet was honest and urged us to consider euthanasia. We were torn. Overwhelmed. And facing an impossible decision. We chose to wait on one thing. Her heartworm test. Sofia was heartworm negative, and because of that, she was given a chance. She underwent surgery and spent 10 days in the hospital fighting her way back. And then something incredible happened. The scared, hurting dog we met at intake disappeared. In her place was a tail-wagging sweetheart who showered the staff with kisses and quickly became a favorite thanks to her gentle nature and loving spirit. During rehab, Sofia gave 100% every single day. She met the hard work with determination, joy, and a resilience that stopped us in our tracks. Her spirit is unreal. Her gratitude is unmistakable.
