About Jack

In the crazy world we live in today, sometimes you just need a calm, cool, and collected companion to keep your worries at bay. If this sounds like you, Jack is your man! Need something to keep your hands busy so you don’t doomscroll? You can pet Jack! Need a zen companion to remind you to enjoy the little moments? Jack’s great at that! Need someone to get you out of the house for a mental health walk a few times a day? Consider Jack your personal trainer! Much of Jack’s history is unknown, but frankly, it doesn’t really matter because he is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet. All of the things that usually get dogs worked up just roll off his back: getting a bath, being blow-dried, going to the vet, getting his nails clipped, and being picked up to go in the car. None of it phases him! At home, Jack will be your constant companion, following you around the house to see what you’re up to and offering his silent support. Since he is an older gentleman, he enjoys his daily naps and will rest quietly while you work, watch TV, or whatever else you get up to. But Jack also loves his daily walks! He needs to lose a bit of additional weight, and while he struggles with his diet and will try to eat other dogs’ food if you don’t watch him, he thoroughly enjoys his exercise and is a very easy walking companion. He doesn’t pull on his leash, and he’s very patient while you’re putting his harness and jacket on. Jack does well with other small dogs, but to be honest, he prefers the company of his human companions and seems mostly uninterested in interacting with other dogs. It is unknown how he is with cats or children. He needs a bit of supervision on meeting new people or dogs, as he’s excitable and can seem a little in their face. Bigger dogs that pay too much attention to him can make him a little crazy, so a leash at dog areas or the vet is best. Jack is working on his potty training, but he does use puppy pads when home alone, as he doesn’t seem to hold it very long. Jack recently had a number of teeth pulled and the rest of them cleaned, and he has a tumor on his liver that does not seem to be affecting his quality of life or health. He takes medication to help with his liver function that is administered once a day. He is otherwise in good health! Jack is currently being fostered in Utah. Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) has foster families in Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. Please check the dog’s location before your apply to adopt them. You will need to pick them up. RMDR DOES NOT TRANSPORT THE DOG TO YOU or transport them across state lines. The Colorado Department of Agriculture requires that all dogs entering PACFA-licensed facilities have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days of entry. Dogs over three months of age must also have proof of a current rabies vaccination, including the vaccination date, manufacturer, and serial number listed on the CVI. Puppies must receive parvovirus and distemper vaccinations at least 14 days before entry. These PACFA requirements may affect the adoption fee. For questions, please email us at contact@rmdr.org. At RMDR, adoptions are not first-come, first-served—we carefully place each dog in the home that best fits their needs. Applications are usually reviewed within 48 hours. Every RMDR dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.
