About Huey Howard

They say dogs live in the moment, but if you look into Huey Howard's soulful eyes, you'll see a story of incredible resilience. Huey's life has been defined by storms-both literal and metaphorical, but his spirit remains unbroken. The First Storm: Six years ago, Huey was given away to a total stranger the night before a major hurricane. He weathered that storm with grace, hoping he'd finally found his "forever." The Second Storm: After six years of loyalty, his family split up, and Huey found himself unwanted and in an unsafe situation. Despite being let down by the people he trusted most-and receiving little to no veterinary care in his past-Huey hasn't let bitterness take root. He is a 9-year-old Golden Doodle who still believes a human's touch is the best thing in the world. At 84 pounds, Huey is a "velcro dog" in a jumbo package. Despite years of medical neglect, Huey is Heartworm Negative! It's a testament to his strength, and he is now fully caught up on all vaccinations and groomed. He is incredibly friendly with humans of all shapes and sizes. If you have a lap, he will try (bravely) to fit in it. Huey is looking for a peaceful retirement home where the only "storms" are the ones he watches safely from a cozy rug. Recently, senior bloodwork suggested Huey may be facing a challenge with liver cancer, but Huey doesn't know he's "senior"-and he certainly doesn't act like it! After a lifetime with little to no exercise, Huey is currently having a mobility renaissance. Between playing with his foster sibling and enjoying short, frequent walks, we have seen a marked improvement in his strength and movement and has even lost a few pounds! He is proof that it's never too late for a fresh start. To support this new lease on life, we are managing his health with a thoughtful, holistic approach. We focus on a specialized diet and high-quality supplements to support his liver and keep his joints jumping. Our goal is simple: to ensure his golden years are lived with maximum mobility, zero pain, and a heart full of joy. The Ideal Home: Huey needs a family who understands that "forever" is about the quality of the days, not just the quantity. No Felines, Please: Huey is a "dog's dog" and a "people's dog," but he's decided that cats are just not his cup of tea. A Commitment to Wellness: Huey needs a family committed to his holistic regimen and his newfound love for gentle exercise. After a lifetime of uncertainty, Huey needs to know he is finally safe. He needs a home where "forever" actually means forever!
