About Jake

At 15 years old, Jake the Chihuahua mix refuses to give in, even after a rough past. He was found wandering alone in the rain, clearly having survived too long on his own. Years of neglect had left him with an old, badly healed leg, a bleeding tumor, a broken jaw, few remaining teeth, curled nails, and hard of hearing. But Jake pulled through. His tumor was removed and found to be benign, his teeth have been cleaned, and for the first time in years, he’s living comfortably. Jake’s old leg injury has fused in place, so surgery isn’t possible, but he manages just fine—no need for amputation. His jaw can’t be fixed either, but that doesn’t stop him from eating heartily. Now that he's comfortable, his true nature comes out. Jake is spunky, curious, and just a little bit sassy. He loves exploring a fenced yard and uses a pet door. Despite having only a few teeth, Jake runs the show. He bonds strongly to his person and prefers to be the only dog; he'll chase others off if he needs to. Jake needs an all-adult, patient home with a secure fenced yard for his golden years. He’s a tiny, opinionated character who rewards patience with deep loyalty and surprising athletic moves. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
