About Milo

Milo has been through a lot since being abandoned in Mexico as a puppy. He spent his early years among nearly 100 dogs in a crowded shelter, with little personal attention. After a brief stint on a ranch, where the idea of herding gave way to play, he and his best friend Zeus found themselves back at the shelter. When Milo finally got adopted, adjusting proved tough—he spent days hiding in the garden, overwhelmed by human presence. Thankfully, a foster volunteer took him in instead of seeing him returned to shelter life. Milo came out of his shell thanks to another rescue dog, Carmelita, who is his anchor and closest companion. These days, Milo thrives in a foster environment with a dozen other dogs on a roomy stretch of grass filled with toys. He’s got a steady routine: early wake-ups, meals on schedule, plenty of time outside, and restful nights in a kennel shared with Carmelita. He gets daily training sessions and attends weekly group classes, steadily learning commands—already responding to sit, here, and wait. Regular outings help him get used to new sights and sounds. Milo needs continued gentle handling and relies on Carmelita’s presence for confidence. He gets along well with other dogs and does best with a familiar peer for guidance. • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Dogs like Milo are usually gentle and patient, making them compatible with families, including those with respectful children. As with any dog, supervised introductions are important, especially given Milo's sensitive history.
