Athena
AvailableAthena is a black and white adult female Black Labrador Retriever/mixed breed in Canton, IL. She’s large in size and is spayed, and her vaccinations are current. Athena is three years and two months old, and she would do best as the only dog in a calm, relaxed home environment.
About Athena
Athena is looking for her second chance. She had a caring home, but sometimes things just don’t work out. Athena and the resident dog couldn’t find their rhythm, and it became clear she belongs as the only dog in the house—a setup where she can soak up all the attention for herself. While she’s met other dogs at the shelter and done fine in short bursts, she’s at her best being the solo star at home. She isn’t cut out for living with cats or younger kids; what she wants is a calm place where she can truly relax. Back at the shelter, Athena has had a hard time adjusting. She thrives in a home environment, where her goofy, affectionate Black Lab personality really shines. She’s playful with her toys, loves a good snuggle, and has a habit of sprawling out on beds and couches. Her silky black coat and panther-like stretches earned her the nickname "Panther" from her last family. Athena is shy at first but warms up into a goofy love bug, generous with both kisses and blanket-hogging. She’s eager to please, food-motivated (a touch lacking in table manners still), and happiest when she’s the queen of the household. Athena needs someone who wants all the laughs, affection, and sweetness a loyal Lab mix can offer. She’s not a lost cause or “too much”—just the right dog waiting for the right place. If you’re ready for endless affection and a loyal snuggle buddy, Athena is ready to start her next chapter. Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today.

Questions about Athena
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Athena, being a Black Labrador Retriever/mixed breed, is most comfortable in a stable home where she’s the only pet, with plenty of affection and attention. Labrador mixes like her thrive with consistent human companionship and a predictable routine.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A large dog like Athena benefits from a secure yard or frequent walks. She doesn't need acres, but daily outdoor time for exercise and play will help her stay happy and healthy.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
While Black Lab mixes often do well with children, Athena is looking for a home without small kids. She is best suited for an adult or older teen household where things are calm and predictable.
