About Poplar
Meet Poplar aka girly-pop! We don't know exactly what her breed mix is, but our current guesses include Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees. What we DO know is that she is a big baby and will likely grow into a 100+ lb dog, so she will need a home with plenty of space to roam around. If you're interested in Poplar, start reading up on these breeds' very interesting personality traits and needs to make sure it would be a good fit for your home! Poplar is currently quite affectionate, sweet, gentle, observant, and cautious. She seems fit to be more of a family dog than a working dog, though she does LOVE roaming around the yard "pawtroling" so it would be great if she had a big yard or land to roam around on. Being an extra-large breed and being a girly on the shy side, she will need someone patient to continue to bring her out of her shell and teach her appropriate manners, given her size. Someone experienced with large breeds, and someone who can commit to training with positive reinforcement only, is necessary. Having a confident, gentle doggy companion would also be a plus, but not required. She's taken quite a few cues from her foster brother already, and I think it's been very helpful, but she prefers the affection of humans, so she'd be okay without one. She's very calm, doesn't need much exercise, has potential hip dysplasia which might be contributing to her lower energy. She loves walking around the yard and will gallop around, she's just not high energy. She will walk alongside you on a leash, but is easily spooked by loud noises, so somewhere more rural would be preferred. She's been doing well with crate training and potty training so far but still needs consistency to avoid separation anxiety.
