Heidi is a beautiful Shepherd girl who was found as a stray with a rope deeply embedded in her neck where it had been for a very long time, causing terrible pain, injury and infection. Embedded collars/ropes are some of our most heartbreaking rescues because they speak to such long-term neglect. The stench of this type of chronic infection is extremely obvious even from a distance and that nobody noticed over the long period of time it takes to get this bad is truly shocking. She was also filthy, flea infested and underweight and yet, she's a happy, friendly girl who loves people and greeted everyone joyfully on arrival. The shelter sent her for surgery to repair the gaping wound in her neck and it's healing well. We removed approximately 40 stapes from her neck on arrival, and she was such a good girl. Someone clearly was good to her at some point. We're guessing this good girl at around 7-8 years old and she's on the petite side at about 50 pounds, but she needs to gain a few. She's very friendly with dogs and people.
